Process

From a drawing to installed work

Redwood can start from sketches, architects’ drawings or design references. The five stages below are the route from that point to finished joinery, fixed in the building.

01

Drawings received

Redwood can work from sketches, architects’ drawings or design references.

A curved fluted white wall wrapping a circulation space, with an arched walnut-lined doorway, a coved light above, exposed beams and a dark polished floor.

02

Technical details resolved

Redwood prepares the AutoCAD drawings and technical specifications for the piece. This is the stage where a detail that reads simply on a plan (an arch tying into a ceiling panel, a junction between two materials) is worked out as something that can actually be manufactured, transported and fixed.

A tall walnut arch opens from a dark panelled corridor into a bright meeting room with a long table and full-height glazing.

03

Materials, finishes and samples

With the needs of designers in mind, Redwood helps clients develop the special finishes, textures and materials they require, and produces a sample if one is required.

04

Workshop manufacture

The work is made at the workshop in Duleek. Where a project demands it, the work is fully pre-constructed in the factory before being disassembled for delivery. That is how Ernst & Young’s reception desk, clad in solid surface with the logo built in and backlit, was delivered to Cork.

05

Delivery and site installation

Delivered and fitted on site, including buildings that stay in use throughout. EY’s Cork office was refurbished in two phases with the practice still in occupation on the floor, on a short programme and a long distance from Duleek.

What Redwood makes

Commercial fit-outs

Commercial fit-outs make up a large proportion of the work: reception, boardroom, meeting, canteen and circulation joinery, manufactured in Duleek and installed on site.

Bespoke joinery

Redwood’s core principle is bespoke furniture and joinery built to the highest standard it can reach. Wall and ceiling cladding, panelling, seating, desks and cabinetry.

Specialist furniture

Contract furniture made to a drawing: booths, benches, banquettes, tables and fitted seating.

Solid surface fabrication

Desks and reception desks in solid surface, including a logo built into the surface and backlit.

Technical drawing and development

AutoCAD drawings and technical specifications prepared from sketches, architects’ drawings or design references.

Materials, finishes and samples

Special finishes, textures and materials developed with the designer, with a sample produced if one is required.

Workshop manufacture

Manufacture at Duleek and, where a project demands it, full pre-construction before delivery.

Site fitting

Delivery, assembly and installation on site, including buildings that remain occupied and in use throughout the works.
